Feresta Kabera

Born in 1995

We can only confirm that Feresta is a half orphan.  Her mother is still alive but extremely impoverished and known to wander local villages and live in the street.  Feresta’s father went missing in 2000 and is rumored to be dead.  For a long time Feresta was without a caregiver and had to provide for her mentally ill older brother.  When Feresta was taken in by Shalom Foundation School she was extremely malnourished and scared, but she has proven to be bright and creative. She is still shy but performs well in school and shows promise to gain more confidence.

Moline Ruhangariho

Born in 1997

When Moline was still little, her father disappeared and never returned. When Moline’s mother died in 2000 of suspected malaria, Moline had nowhere to go. She found herself in the Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Trust. She now attends school at Bishop’s Primary School in the Kanungu District of Uganda, where she excels in several subjects.

Hope Kiconco

Hope became an orphan as a result of her parents contracting dying of AIDS. At the home of her new guardian, her uncle, Hope has taken on the responsibility of many of the domestic duties. As a result, she has missed many days of schooling; however, with financial assistance, she will miss far fewer days of school. Hope likes the subjects of art, reading, and agriculture, and knows that with greater opportunities, she will excel in many more subjects.

Annet Namande

Born in 1990

When Annet was only two years old, both her father and mother died of unnatural causes. Since then she has been living with her grandfather in Kahondo Village in the Kamwenge District of Uganda. Annet began school at the age of eight, so she is very behind. Her grandfather has been too old (83 years) to pay for her schooling, but because of the generosity of friends and well-wishers, she has made it all the way to secondary school. Annet is an excellent student. She hopes that secondary school will provide a strong educational foundation, one that she can use to continue onto University and attend medical school.

Rusiga Kyomugisha

Rusiga’s mother died of malaria in early 2002. Her father died in late 2002 as a result of the civil war in Uganda.  Since then, Rusiga has been passed between relatives for her care.  She is a sweet girl and has done very well in school.  She has no siblings that we are aware of.  She attends school at Bishop’s Primary School in the Kanungu District of Uganda and is proving to be a quick learner.

Scola Tumwebaze

Born in 1995

Scola’s father died in 1996. She became an orphan when her mother abandoned her as a result of alcoholism.  Scola has received little care for most of her life, especially because she had to take care of her alcoholic mother for so many years.  As a result, she has missed a lot of school and gotten behind in her classes and education.  When she arrived at boarding school she was malnourished and angry.  She began school at Shalom Foundation School in the town of Kisoro and has since become a funny, charming young lady. 

Harriet Mbabazi

Following the death of both her parents in 2008 and early 2009, Harriet moved to the Kigarama Village in Eastern Uganda (near Kibale National Park) to live with her grandmother.  At this time her grandmother also became the caregiver for her three brothers. Although finances were strained, Harriet’s grandmother sent her to school. Harriet is a bright young girl with a strong interest in education.   With sponsorship from AOF and the Kasiisi Project, Harriet has moved to a new school where she is receiving a better education.  She continues to perform well and we’re looking forward to watching her grow.

Rosette Kamuli

Born in 1997

Rosette’s mother and father died when she was very young of unknown causes.  She has three half-siblings as result of her father’s multiple marriages, but since her father’s death nobody has taken full responsibility for her care because of this family confusion.  For most of her time as an orphan she has been cared for by her aunt.  AOF learned of Rosette through the Kasiisi Project and began funding Rosette’s education and care in 2009.  Since then, Rosette has shown a lift in spirits and an unmistakable enthusiasm for school.  She has proven to be resilient and comfortable in the classroom and with her fellow students.
